A Perfect Weekend

Here are a few shots from this past weekend.  Seven of my roommates from college, including me, got together in NYC for a reunion weekend.  I had such a blast, I don't think I stopped smiling all weekend.

On Friday night, we got dressed up because they told me that you are never too old for Halloween, or at least we're not too old yet.  Real world Halloween costumes were better than college costumes in my opinion.  Can you tell what we all are?  If you can't it's your own fault.  And yes, I was naked.  You're welcome.

Then Saturday night we got classy and went out to dinner at a really yummy tapas place.  We were seated by a roaring fireplace which was nice because... it was blizzarding outside.

We better have another reunion soon.  Miss you guys already.

Parenthood

I really can't get enough of this show.  The story lines feel so real, and the chemistry between the characters is addictive.  I tear up every time I watch an episode.

I highly recommend it.

Birthday Week

My birthday was on Tuesday, and I wasn't that excited about it because 22 isn't that exciting, plus I would be working all day, plus my family wouldn't be around.  BUT I ended up having a fantastic day thanks to the beauty of our nation's postal service, and my awesome friends.

I went to lunch that day and returned to a decorated cubicle, plus champagne + flute.  I was really touched because I wasn't expecting it at all.  Then we had birthday cake.

I got home and opened Matt's gift, which was a necklace that I spotted and loved while we were apartment hunting this summer.  It was so thoughtful and perfect, and really stinkin' cool.  It's even better because it reminds me of this guy.  I also had a package from Ashley with mugs, which is key for the ridiculous amounts of coffee I drink.

Then a delivery of fresh flowers arrived from Kiki!  First time I ever received flowers, and I was way more excited than I probably should have been.

I also received a ton of love from people who sent birthday wishes one way or another.  So Matt and I drank the champagne and I ran around all excited while calling and texting all the wonderful people who had reached out that day.

(The terrible quality of these phone-pictures is really pushing me to pre-order the new iPhone.  Also my macbook just corrected 'iphone' to 'iPhone' automatically.  Big brother is watching.)

my favorite thing is waking up when it's so early that it's still dark out, but you don't have to get up if you really don't want to.  your dad's favorite music is quietly playing somewhere, which not-so-coincidently is your favorite too.  you hear the people you love talking in the next room, and it smells like breakfast mixed with coffee grounds.  on top of that, it's the first time it's cold enough out to justify turning on the heat, and the air coming through the vents smells like home.  i could lie like that for years.

Fugly

These Prada Mary Jane leather boots are quite possibly the ugliest and creepiest boots I've ever seen.  At $1,500, I just don't understand.  Net-A-Porter, this is so weird.

Fall Time

Waiting, hoping, wishing fall would come and wipe away summer completely.  Maybe cooler weather would shock everyone back into reality.

What are the odds this outfit is office appropriate?  The boots, I need.

Black Swan

The Foundry is a site kind of like Gilt Group, but for Home Decor-ish things.  Usually the stuff is pretty boring, but today it is AWESOME.

I can't tell you how badly I want this authentic Black Swan skeleton.  Whoooeeee.  I mean come on, it's only $1,080 bucks.

They also have duck, parrot, and chicken skeletons under glass plus lots of cool botany charts.  How coooooool.

---

I haven't posted in a while because I'm feeling uninspired.  I'm also feeling conflicted.  One morning I'll wake up and feel really lucky to have this time at home with family to relax and just breathe.  Another morning I'll wake up feeling claustrophobic, like I need to get out and find a purpose.  It's all very confusing.

On another note, moving a life-full of stuff from NC to NYC is complicated, stressful, and expensive.  I don't know why people would ever move if it wasn't 100% necessary.  It's terrible.

One really good thing about this summer is that I'm going to see tons of movies.  My favorite so far--Crazy Stupid Love.  It was sweet and hilarious and perfect.  I love Steve Carell and I love Emma Stone and I loved this movie.

Happy Birthday, Mom!

I love you so much!

Genius

I think my small Manhattan closet will require me to get something like this.  Seating + shoe storage = necessary.  I'm sure there's a cheaper option out there because this one is absurd.  But pretty.

Santa Monica, I like you.

I'm in Santa Monica, CA this week.  This place has the best July weather I have ever felt in my whole whole life.  It's been sunny, in the low 70's, with cool breezes.  It's a little surreal and now I know why people live out here.  I was a little confused beforehand.

We walked the pier, which obviously means we ate hotdogs as well.  Mom's had fritos and nacho cheese on top.  She is a classy lady.

I touched the Pacific Ocean for the first time!  That crap is cold.

The shopping out here is reeeeediculous.  And since I needed work clothes anyway, I only felt a little guilty after blowing my first six month's salary.  JK.  Kind of.

So pretty.  I have no idea how I'm getting these home.

Awwww, little smoochy face.

And the view from the hotel room.  I should be back in the humidity-filled eastern part of the country in a couple days.
