Treasure Box

I have so many treasures, so today I painted paper mache boxes to keep them in.  Get jealous, they are awesome.

Yes

I woke up this morning around 9, go into mom's room, and Christian is sitting in the dark listening to Billy Joel's "We Didn't Start the Fire" and watching the Stuart Little movie on mute.  He said summertime means he does what he wants.

Maybe this apartment will actually work out.  Cross your fingers.

Hello, beautiful.

Photo Diary: Antiquing in the NC Mountains

Friday, mom had a day off and we went to Banner Elk and Blowing Rock in search of consignment and antique shops filled with cool junk.  I had the best day hanging out with my mom, but came home empty handed.

We did find the best trunks I've ever seen in my life.  BUT, they were not consignment or in my price range.  I am slightly over-interested in textiles, so I loved the aztec-ie one on the bottom left.  The rugs were also ridiculously expensive, but equally gorgeous.  Might have hyperventilated a little while looking through them all.  They even smelled like animal.

Then we went to lunch.

Then I spent the rest of the afternoon documenting the absurd things you can buy in antique shops.

Like viking chairs.

And Lady-Pinocchios.

And babies in bark satchels... and in spoons.

And rhinestone-covered amphibians.

Whatta good day.

Pretty true

Kind of true and funny, but overly dramatic tumblr.

Dreamy

Architectural Digest says, "Originally built for the transport of goods, the 80-foot Tusitiri is an African dhow, or lateen-rigged ship, which anchors at Lamu Island, Kenya, and can be chartered."

I need to do this.

And then I'll go to Austin, TX and stay here.

"On a scenic reservoir of the Colorado River in Austin, Texas, Ted Flato—of the architectural firm Lake/Flato—designed a contemporary 6,000-square-foot residence."

Bummer

Anyone else notice that plane ticket prices have sky-rocketed?  Two years ago I got a ticket from Charlotte to San Francisco for $89.  Now, I can't find a round trip to LAX for less than $400.  Madness, I tell you. These fuel prices are eating all my monies.  I'm going to have nothing left for awesome clothes and shoes... or food.

Also, my apartment lease fell through, so I have to make another trip into New York to look again.  Scratch that, we have the apartment.  I'm in a love-hate relationship with NYC and I haven't even moved there yet.

When I was in the city last week, the broker showed us an apartment directly above the original Coyote Ugly bar.  It was tiny, with no windows in the "bedrooms," and a gross kitchen.  If I had to live there, I would have cried myself to sleep at night.

Planning ahead and out of my budget

I got back from NYC apartment hunting a couple days ago with a lot of things to think about.  We think we found an apartment, but getting everything ironed out with the lease is more difficult than we thought.  So, yeah.  I'm just going to plan my room (still unrealistically because my real budget is depressing).

via crate and barrel, of course

I've always wanted an upholstered headboard, and I think I'll keep my room simple with whites, creams, and light grays.  BUT, I do think I want a more dramatic, darker rug like this one.

And then when I'm moving all these lovely things into my new East Village apartment, I'll wear my new Bensimon classic lace-ups that I got in Madewell in New York.  (This part is not wishful thinking.)

Big Changes, People

My religiously-checked weather.com homescreen.  The times, they are a changin'.

Success!

I blogged about Awesome People Hanging Out Together a full 3 DAYS before A Cup of Jo did.  I feel so cool, so fly, so in the know.  I probably just cancelled it out by posting about it, and using the phrase "so fly," but I don't care!

Also, I leave Sunday to go to NYC for a few days to apartment hunt with my roommate-to-be.  I imagine walking around the East Village looking ridiculously fashionable and comfortable.  But, I have no real idea about how to do that, so this is what I'll be pondering for the next couple days.  It's a hard life, I know.

Also also, I want this lady's life.  She is pretty stinkin' glamorous, but also funny, a man repeller.  And I like her hair.  And her clothes.

Also also also, why is my pinterest not working?
